The Juneteenth Flag was created by Ben Haith in 1997. It was revised in 2000 into the modern design widely recognized today, and in 2007 the date "June 19, 1865" was added to mark the historic day Juneteenth reached Galveston, Texas.

Haith also led the first historic Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts in 2000. That tradition has continued through the years as communities gather each June to honor freedom, history, and remembrance.

Today, Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremonies have taken place throughout the month of June in communities across the nation, including Delaware, Boston, Memphis, Galveston, and Omaha.
